Jojo Wright

Jojo (she / they) is a queer, trans writer whose works explore gender, characters trying to get their chance, and folks thriving on the fringes of society.

A tenth-generation Tennessean, after college Jojo moved to New York City to pursue their passion for representation through storytelling by working as a theatre-maker. Jojo premiered eight new plays in New York, was recognized as an O'Neill Semi Finalist and as a Sewanee Fellow, and founded an annual festival of new works: Duct Tape and a Dream. After six years in New York, Jojo moved to Los Angeles to tackle TV writing, and the Duct Tape and a Dream festival continued under a new artistic director.

Now in LA, Jojo is currently showrunner’s assistant to Arika Mittman (UTV overall) and also writes for the hit Wondery podcast series EVEN THE RICH. Previously, Jojo was a staff writer for the Facebook Watch series TXT Stories (where their highest episode has 16+ million views – and counting!!), and they penned the short film STARTER FLUID for Jolly Pig Productions. Jojo’s series JOCKSTRAP PALACE was optioned by New Form Productions, and they wrote for the Parcast podcast series GONE. Jojo also worked as showrunner's assistant on the Paramount series PARADISE LOST and was a Development Coordinator on FINAL SPACE S1 & S2 (TBS), I SHIP IT S2 (CW), PARTY GIRL pilot (Freeform), and MR. STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT S1-S4 (go90). Jojo was awarded the Sloan Grant for the pilot HOME TO ROOST, and Jojo's feature script THE FALL placed at the Austin Film Festival.

Jojo's plays continue to be produced in New York and regionally, and in 2019 Jojo's ten-minute play THE BOOK OF RUTH was published by Smith & Kraus.
